What’s the easiest way to get everyone’s attention? Just say Donald Trump. All ears will perk up, people you don’t know might even join your conversation.
What has caused this phenomenon?
Donald is running for the GOP nomination for president of the United States as a bigoted, racist candidate. He has successfully brought white supremacists and racists out of the national closet and given them hope that they will have their country back. It’s not Trump’s rhetoric that worries me, it’s the millions of people who support him. When Donald leaves the stage, these millions of people will still be here, armed and prepared to “serve” the concept of white privilege and superiority.
If Trump actually gets the nomination, his opponent will likely be Hillary Clinton, THE WAR MONGERING, LIAR, FRIEND OF WALL STREET “PROGRESSIVE” Democratic nominee. Running against Bernie Sanders has forced Hillary to alter her rhetoric, not ideology, and masquerade as a “progressive” candidate.
If, in fact, Hillary runs against Donald, he has put himself in such an extreme and hateful position on race, national security, and immigration, that Hillary will be able to focus everyone’s attention on his bigotry. This would allow her to avoid explaining her involvement in the bombing of Libya and her support for the coup in Honduras. Hillary will exploit the fight against Trump’s ethnic slurs and insults and hope to be able to avoid her own record becoming a focal point for discussion.
As John Grant describes in his article, “’Shining the Light of Truth on Hillary and Poor Honduras,’ since a June 2009 coup in Honduras, violence beneficial to rightist power brokers and international corporations—violence directed against activists for the poor and indigenous—has skyrocketed.”
“Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton was President Obama’s secretary of state at the time of the 2009 coup. At dawn on June 28th, a military unit invaded the home of duly elected President Manuel Zelaya, woke him from his bed at gunpoint and flew him to Costa Rica. Rumors spread of secret US involvement on a direct or indirect basis. After a brief hiatus, military aid was reinstated in full to the Honduran military. Secretary Clinton publicly called for nations around the world to support the government installed by the coup and pushed preparations for new elections.”
Why was it necessary to remove Honduran President Manuel Zelaya from office? He was a left of center ideologue and the U.S. does not tolerate this kind of leadership. Although the U.S., through Hillary’s leadership in the State Department, initially condemned the overthrow of this democratically elected government, they quickly offered support to the new government.
In effect, Hillary used her power and influence to back the overthrow of Zelaya’s government and the U.S. objection to this coup was merely a public relations strategy.
Trump scares too many people, many of whom still find him entertaining. But it was not Trump who supported the invasion of Iraq; it is not Trump who is calling for a no fly zone in Syria; it is not Trump who gets paid $250,000 from Goldman-Sachs to make a speech; it is not Trump who is supported by the filthy rich . . . he is one of the filthy rich.
In fact, Donald was against NAFTA and has made it clear he is against the TPP. These treaties have not served the needs of U.S. workers who were put in competition for jobs with workers around the globe who earn much less money. Donald has stated clearly that Social Security is fine the way it is and has no desire to see it privatized and placed into the hands of Wall Street speculators. There are many areas where Donald is to the left of Hillary
We must be careful and not let her focus her entire candidacy on denouncing Trump’s racism and bigotry. She has much to answer for.
Trump’s behavior and rhetoric serves the Democrats very well. There are many voters who do not like Hillary and would not vote for her who, because of Trump, would come out to vote next November. This would not be a vote for Hillary, but a vote against Donald.
People throughout the U.S. are organizing protests whenever and wherever Trump speaks. It is very positive that the Donald is helping to organize the people. But, the protests cannot be for Trump only. Hillary also should be targeted for protests and confronted about the many questionable involvements and policies in which she has been an active participant.
As Margaret Kimberly writes, “Progressives were aghast when Trump said he would kill terrorist suspects and their families. Of course Barack Obama already did that when he performed an extra-judicial execution on Anwar al-Awlaki and his son. The same people who feign shock at Trump are silent regarding Democratic criminality. The same week that Chicagoans took to the street against Trump, the Obama administration killed 150 people in Somalia in an air strike.”
The whole political system is corrupt and those that perpetuate this fraud on all of us are also corrupt. Trump is a rich, narcissistic. fraud. He does not stand for anything other than self-aggrandizement and making the profitable deal. When he walks into a room, I’m sure that all the air gets sucked up.
Whatever or whoever Donald is, he has verbalized the hateful racism that stirs the pot in this country. There are two wars going on . . . it is a class war that includes the wealthy rulers against the struggling workers and the other, the white population against the non-whites.
Wars are not won by remaining passive and signing petitions or by voting for one of the two candidates the wealthy have chosen for us. Unless we organize for actions and stop business as usual, nothing will change. The wealthy are not about to surrender their privilege and/or wealth. We have to demand what we want and need.
