On the evening of July 17, 2016, as delegates, media, and VIPs gathered for a Republican National Convention eve “Welcome to Cleveland” bash at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on the shore of Lake Erie, Tucker Carlson, who is increasingly using his Fox News program to tout lunatic conspiracy theories, hosted a hush-hush strictly invitation-only dinner meeting at the downtown Hilton Hotel. Carlson recently brandished a new bit of lunacy by stating that this year’s January 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol was planned and carried out by the FBI.
Speaking of insurrections, the FBI might want to open an investigation of Carlson’s June 17, 2016 dinner in Cleveland. The seeds for what occurred on January 6 may have been planted at Carlson’s dinner. Having arrived in Cleveland in the afternoon of June 17, I was told Alex Jones, whose crew held the key to my Air BnB apartment downtown and under whose Infowars credentials I was covering the convention, was tied up at Tucker Carlson’s “dinner meeting.” Present with Jones were a few of his Infowars associates.
From what I was told, Carlson’s dinner was no normal “meet and greet” affair. Rather, it involved some key players and provocateurs in the 2016 and 2020 elections, with a few, including Jones, having their fingerprints on the January 6 seditious revolt against Congress. Perennial political dirty trickster Roger Stone was at Carlson’s dinner. So, too, was retired Lt. Gen. and later Qanon advocate Michael Flynn. Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage, who had just experienced a victory in a June 23 referendum in the UK to withdrawal from the European Union, was also noshing with his American far-right colleagues.
Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller referenced at least one Republican convention-related reception in Cleveland attended by the then-Russian ambassador to the U.S. Sergey Kislyak. Based on Carlson’s repetition on Fox News of talking points that had previously aired on Russian television, it might serve the FBI’s interests to obtain a full attendee list of all those present at Carlson’s Cleveland “dinner.” There were references to Cleveland eight times in Mueller’s 448-page report on Trump’s collusion with the Russians in the 2016 campaign..
January 6 was no “spur of the moment” operation. Its seeds were sown long before January 6, possibly even at Carlson’s version of Adolf Hitler’s “Beer Hall Putsch.”
