Channel surfing these past few days all one sees are a preponderance of talk shows about sex scandals and PEDs (Performance Enhancing Drugs). These so called journalists are up in arms about the audacity of politicians like Anthony Weiner and athletes like Ryan Braun.
Over the years, countless colleagues of both these men have done the same thing . . . some got outed and some never have. The American public, according to these media whores, are up in arms and ‘want justice’!
To this writer, what Braun did is far worse than what a jackass like Weiner is all about. Weiner has a right to have his private life his own if it does not hurt anyone else, and is not against any laws. He has his wife to deal with, and that should be enough. Braun, on the other hand, lied about using an artificial and illegal means to better his career. . . . At the expense of the majority of his colleagues who play by the rules. Yet, in writer Howard Bryant’s wonderful book of a few years earlier Juicing the Game, many in both Major League Baseball and the media knew what was going on involving many other star players . . . and sat on their hands for years! Bryant pinpoints manager Tony LaRussa, celebrated by many as one of the all time field geniuses, as either covering up the steroid saga involving his star player Mark McGuire, or being ‘not so managerial’ as it spun around him.
My question to all out there that are so judgmental involving either the Weiner sex scandal or the Braun PED one: Where were you when you found out that the Bush gang lied and coerced our nation into a preemptive attack on Iraq? We who ‘knew better’ unleashed our fury way before the devastating Shock and Awe campaign began on March 19, 2003. Surely, after the facts siphoned out of that gas tank of disgrace through 2004, 2005 and 2006, many Americans had their eyes opened to the truth. Yet, no national discourse on this most heinous of all acts: The immoral and illegal, even treasonous, war on another sovereign nation which posed absolutely no threat to our security! Silence in the mainstream media! There should have been congressional hearings (they had them on PEDs in sports) and calls for not only impeachment, but perhaps indictments!
How many people have been physically hurt or killed by the stupidity of Anthony Weiner? How many by the selfish and underhanded act of Ryan Braun? Then go back to 10 years ago and count the hundreds of thousands, if not millions of lives affected by the Bush gang’s war on Iraq.
Yes, once again, Braun should be punished severely for his actions and lies. The others in his sport who have their bodies tainted by PEDs should also be prosecuted by that sport . . . as should the managers and team and league officials (and media) who looked the other way for years!
Anthony Weiner and others in his profession will have to answer to the voters in their game, because that is what politics in America has regressed into.
My concern is about all our neighbors out there, as our towns and cities go belly up along with many in our labor force or ‘lack of labor’ force. You see, Uncle Sam has no money to send to our localities to help save them from financial ruin. For decades this was referred to as revenue sharing. Congress would vote to send back to the states money in the form of block grants, which were not repayable, which went to subsidize local city and town services. Translated: more and better policing, firefighting, educating, infrastructure improvements, hospital and Medicaid funding . . . and on and on. All vanished with this Military Industrial Empire’s need to dominate the planet. Most of our federal tax revenues (50+%) have been going for military spending . . . especially due to the phony wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Yet, few of those this writer speaks with ever connect those dots. They only care about clowns like Weiner and Braun, not the real culprits of our nation’s demise. Sad.
