The fault, dear Brutus . . .

Today commemorates the 12th anniversary of the most heinous act committed in recent history by my country’s government.

In Larry Everest’s insightful and well researched 2004 book, Oil Power & Empire, one learns of the history surrounding our empire’s Middle Eastern agenda. Everything , literally everything that our mainstream media and our politicians told us regarding the (illegal and immoral) preemptive invasion of Iraq was hogwash. In Everest’s book, one learns of the machinations of our Military Industrial Empire concerning the quest for dominance of the greatest oil and natural gas rich region of the world. As my old Italian grandmother used to say, ” Filippo, things are never what they seem.”

One of the most interesting facts that our embedded media and politicians (of both parties) never felt the need to relay to us was how American and European companies helped Saddam Hussein develop chemical and biological weapons during his war with Iran in the 1980s. Of course, it was our own reliable CIA that helped get Hussein and his Baath Party into power in the first place. Read Everest’s book to really get a grasp of these things.

This writer loves to watch college basketball. Sunday night, they played the Atlantic Coast Conference’s championship game in Greensboro North Carolina. Before the game, as usual during our so called Orwellian ‘War on Terror’ (which will never end in our lifetime if they have their way), they brought out the Army honor guard to center court. Of course, because we are in the midst of a ‘War,’ all the soldiers wore camouflage to blend with the flag our empire has stolen from we true patriots. As they sang ‘God Bless America,’ the fans all held their hands over their hearts. If someone superimposed 1930s Germany with the goose-stepping troops and the ‘Horst Wessel’ song sung by the minions . . . no one would see the difference would they?

It angered and saddened this writer at the same time to see soldiers of my nation used like pawns in the ‘Grand Chessboard ‘ strategy that President Carter’s national security advisor, Brzezinski, originated back in the late 1970s. For all those out there who still think that the Democratic Party is the party of sanity and rationale . . . forget it! Both parties have always served the interests of the empire. Of course now the new enemies to mankind are the wild zealots in ISIL, another faction that our U. S. foreign policy predators helped to create. In Everest’s 2004 book, one can see how he was so ‘ahead of the curve’ on all these events. As we all should have learned in high school history class, history has this nasty habit of repeating itself.

This writer hears so many friends and associates continually complaining about how there is no funding for needed government services and programs. They raise our fees and lower our services constantly, no matter where you live. Our schools, libraries, safety net programs, hospitals, basic city services, even now pension benefits . . . all being cut to the bone. It even affects our local police and fire departments and of course increases in property taxes. Yet, no one gives a **** about the over 50% of our federal taxes going to the War Empire by way of military spending. Why is that? Why no connection? Well, the propaganda mill is so great for so long that many of our friends and neighbors still think like those fools in Orwell’s 1984 that the enemy is at our door continually . . . though he changes quickly like a chameleon. Factor in the great sin of apathy and indifference by most Americans when we send out drone missile attacks that consistently kill innocent civilians. Remember both ‘War on Iraq 1′ and then ‘War on Iraq 2,’ when our carpet bombing campaigns destroyed the very core of Iraqi society’s infrastructure and water supply? Did most of us care then, when the survivors of our blitzkrieg had no medicine, food, electricity or drinking water . . . let alone safe shelter? Our depleted uranium from those nasty shells sucked the life out of so many Iraqis . . . including the little innocent children and the elderly . . . with that slow cancerous death. Who cared? Little Katie Couric marched through the halls of NBC shouting, “Marines Rock!”

The scam continues, as it always will so long as the good folks of our sweet America remain silent to it all. The Eastern religions speak of Karma , and the Bible refers to it as ‘An eye for an eye . . . ’ If so, what awaits each of us when the grim reaper shows his face , it will be ‘settle up time’ then. Sadly for many. Remember Brutus?
