Many would have you believe that the Iraq “War” is the longest war in U.S. history. That is far from the truth. The longest war in our history is the class war being waged by the ruling class against the poor and the working class.
When the privateers realized that capitalism and imperialism offered them the opportunity to exploit labor in order to maximize profits, their agenda quickly became one in which they searched for new sources of cheap labor that kept workers competing with one-another for low paying jobs, found tax shelters in other countries to avoid paying taxes here in the U.S., pressured Congress into formulating tax laws that allowed them to reduce the taxes they did pay, promoted and imposed austerity programs on working people when the economy was struggling, promoted wars in the Middle East that would give them access to greater resources and new markets (by the way, it is the sons and daughters of poor and working class people that are sent to kill and/or be killed in order to fulfill the agenda of the ruling class).
And, despite this history, millions of people are excited about the upcoming election, as they have been for all presidential elections, hoping the winner will make a difference in our lives. The truth of the matter is that as long as these elections are framed within a capitalist/imperialist construct, it is nothing more than a sham. We are at war and to participate in this farce gives legitimacy to the process which, as Donald Trump has stated, is rigged.
