Urging millions to rise up, Trump foes issue call to ‘resist fascism’

Thousands of activists, journalists, scientists, entertainers, and other prominent voices took out a full-page call to action in the New York Times on Wednesday making clear their rejection of President-elect Donald Trump and Vice President-elect Mike Pence with the simple message: “No!”

“Stop the Trump/Pence regime before it starts! In the name of humanity we refuse to accept a fascist America!” the ad states, followed by a list of signatories that includes scholar Cornel West; author Alice Walker; Chase Iron Eyes of the Standing Rock Sioux; educator Bill Ayers; poet Saul Williams; CNN‘s Marc Lamont Hill; Carl Dix of the Communist Party USA; and numerous others.

Trump is “assembling a regime of grave danger” that is an “immoral peril to the future of humanity and the earth itself,” the call to action continues. “Millions must rise up in a resistance with a deep determination such that we create a political crisis that prevents the Trump/Pence fascist regime from consolidating its hold on the governance of society.”

Countering Trump and Pence’s “regime” will require a month of resistance leading up to the president-elect’s inauguration on January 20, the ad states. That means refusing to accommodate or work with the administration, as well as taking part in “protests that don’t stop—where people refuse to leave, occupying public space, and more and more people stand up with conviction and courage.”

Such movements are taking shape elsewhere, as the Women’s March on Washington is now poised to be the biggest inauguration demonstration despite a shaky start and bureaucratic roadblocks.

The Times ad calls for concerned citizens to support the call to action—or commit to it themselves. More than 2,000 people have already signed the declaration.

“Our only recourse now is to act together outside normal channels,” the ad states. “Every faction within the established power structure must be forced to respond to what we do—creating a situation where the Trump/Pence regime is prevented from ruling.”

  1. We must resist and resist in a unified way. Have you read Invincible?

It can’t happen here just happened and wrapped in the flag of patriotism: Fascism rides into DC
    In 1936 Sinclair Lewis wrote

IT CAN’T HAPPEN HERE What Will Happen When America Has a dictator?
How could Sinclair Lewis have predicted the der Trump presidency of 2017? The handwriting was on the wall and remember that it takes very little to mobilize a relatively low-information population to follow an autocratic authoritarian reality media savvy dictator-in-the-making that has a cable “news” program to light his path.

Now we have a president elect that tweets his pronouncements to his 1 million followers and all of corporate media report these as fresh news. It reminds one of a new parents excitingly reporting each new word that their two year old utters. If we are to succeed as a resistance movement then we must let go of our splintered concerns and unite in a forceful and united way. The map provided by Indivisible may be the key to uniting our splintered concerns.

  2. The Left continues to make themselves look like hypocrites, fools, petulant sore losers, and now resemble the right wingers they love to denigrate. Blaming Russia. Trashing indy media by jumping on Obama’s fake news train. People are social media calling for Trump to be whacked. School groups refusing to participate in the inauguration. If I remember correctly, more than a few Republicans didn’t care for Obama winning but I don’t remember the level of sour grapes then that we see now. Trump won, Killary lost. Regardless of one’s feelings about the Electoral College, it is what we have now and I suggest anyone who wants to abolish it put his/her efforts into lobbying for such rather than pointing fingers at evil Russians lurking under every corner, looking the other way when their guy Obama signs legislation to censor any speech the govt doesn’t like, and acting like fools ranting about overthrowing the Trump administration. If the people who are quaking in their boots about the “fascist” Trump haven’t been bothered by the fascist agenda Obama has so deftly cemented these past 8 years, I don’t know why said people are going bat crap crazy now. Get a grip, folks. Your gal Killary didn’t do jack squat to earn the vote of her party’s core constituencies of poor, working class, labor, and minorities. Her past cheerleading for NAFTA, mass incarceration, Wall Street casino along with her present cheerleading for TPP, Wall Street casino, and every other detriment to above-named constituencies doomed her campaign from day one. In addition, despite the empire’s effort to suppress and dismiss indy media news about Wikileaks revelations about the myriad of skeletons spilling from Killary’s closet, some of this news got out to more than a few people. That leak about DNC working against Sanders campaign? It wasn’t the Russians, you oh-so-intellectually superior Lefties. The leak came from DNC insider Seth Rich who was probably fed up shenanigans of his employer. BTW, Rich was killed in an alleged “robbery” shortly thereafter. Funny thing about that robbery; his intact wallet, watch, and phone remained with his bullet riddled body. Given the Clinton closet includes skeletons of people they had killed because they got in the way of their ascent to power, it’s no stretch to ponder if Rich was another victim of the Clinton mafia. It’s the economy stupid – just like it was during Bill Clinton’s run in the 90s. Sanders and Trump were the only mainstream candidates focusing on pocketbook issues. After Killary and the DNC stole the primaries from Sanders, Trump was the last man standing among the mainstream candidates who addressed the economic issues that are the number one concern for the masses – regardless of party, race, gender, etc. It’s getting pathetic to observe the Left continue such petulant and useless rants and plots against Trump. These same oh-so p.c Lefties would be apoplectic in their denunciations of Trump voters if Trump had lost and his supporters were acting the fool like the Left and its presstitute media brethren are behaving now. Word to the Left: you share a crapload of blame for things getting to this point. You’ve remained either indifferent, silent, or made excuses while the Democrat party has neglected its base of the working stiff masses over the last 30+ years. Trade deals, lost jobs, Wall Street deregulation, crumbling infrastructure, homelessness, banksters becoming gansters, health insurance industry and Big Pharma literally writing healthcare “deform” for their own benefit, gutting of public sector and civil liberties, 24/7 war disguised as “humanitarian intervention,” – Democrat politicians and administrations have had a big hand in all of the above. Your time to educate and mobilize the masses (including withholding votes from those Dems who failed to work in your interests) to lessen or stop the above mess was way back when things first started to go in the crapper. Since you did nothing of the sort, just go sit down now and STFU. BTW, if Killary had won, fascism would be alive and well as she would continue Obama’s wars and gutting of the public sector and civil liberties unabated as the Left would remain silent and/or endorse any action she took.
