Donald Trump’s capping his deplorable first year in office by despicably slashing America’s UN dues by $285 million for the 2016–2017 period—more cuts likely ahead.
His affront followed the world body’s overwhelming rejection of his unlawful Jerusalem declaration, his message delivered by Washington’s most disgraceful UN envoy in its history, a woman unfit for any public office, a neocon lunatic know-nothing, an utterly despicable character.
Nikki Haley applauded what she called “instill[ing] more discipline and accountability throughout the UN system . . . a big step in the right direction,” while touting America’s “generosity,” adding: “you can be sure we’ll continue to look at ways to increase the UN’s efficiency while protecting our interests.”
Washington is responsible for 22% of the UN’s budget, 28% for so-called peacekeeping operations—unrelated to maintaining peace and providing for the needs of people during a transition period until local government handles things on its own.
Blue helmets usually create more conflict than resolution, functioning as imperial enforcers, most often making things worse, not better—involved in mass rapes, sex and illicit drugs trafficking, smuggling, exploiting local labor, corruption and other high crimes.
Trump smacked the world body for not bending to his will on Jerusalem, a shameful act by a deplorable administration.
Dues assessed member states relate to their GDP and other factors, the world’s richest country paying the largest amount.
Washington makes its own rules, snubbing the world body for violating them, devoting increasing amounts of its resources for militarism, war making, corporate handouts and tax cuts for the rich—billions of dollars slashed from vital programs to pay for them.
Trump and neocons infesting his administration threaten world peace. They shun common decency.
They’ve made America more of a pariah state than already—unaccountable for its endless high crimes and affronts.
