Today is GivingTuesday but let’s make December GivingNewsdays to raise the crucial funds that keep Intrepid Report publishing, along with all the other news sites that value independence and freedom, that don’t take advertising, don’t have paywalls and don’t receive funding from foundations or corporations.
From the White House to Congress and the courts, our constitutionally guaranteed freedom of the press is under attack and the corporate media are doing nothing to fight back. Donald Trump constantly calls the media “the enemy of the people.” Yet, it was the corporate media that gave him billions of dollars that helped him to win the presidency.
Over the last four decades, corporations have been gobbling up newspapers, television stations and radio stations. The corporate executives are not news people. They are bottom line people. Moreover, they are propaganda purveyors, not to mention the important news they don’t report. We endeavor to report the news, analysis and commentary they ignore.
Now Trump and his cohorts want to silence us. A number of the independent sites and real reporters and commentators have lost their sites or been blocked by Twitter and Facebook. Truth-telling is on their hit list; just ask Chelsea Manning again languishing in prison because she refuses to be manipulated by a grand jury or Julian Assange who is slowly being killed in a British prison or whistleblower Edward Snowdon who had to take refuge in Russia.
I don’t like asking people for money but I don’t have much choice if I want to keep Intrepid Report publishing. So I have to ask those who can afford $5, $10, $20 or more to make either a one time or monthly donation.
