Our three-year old modem/router chose New Year’s Day to die, leaving us no way to connect to the Internet, thusly, putting us two days behind in posting new articles.
CenturyLink, our DSL provider replaced it yesterday, but with a new twist: a $4.95 per month lease fee. When the banksters aren’t dollaring (can’t say nickle and diming us anymore) us to death, while paying themselves million-plus dollars in bonuses, the corporations are or shrinking the size of their products to increase their profits.
Now $4.95 per month may not seem like a large fee, but it is when you’re working on a shoestring and when CenturyLink has 5.4 million broadband DSL customers that’s an additional potential $320-plus million per year for CenturyLink. Not small potatoes, eh?
As journalist Linda Ellerbee used to say, “And so it goes.”
