Midterm takeaway: We need a lot more democracy

Republicans banked this election on lies, fear-mongering, and rule-rigging. It almost worked.

I can’t be the only one who spent the night of the midterms tossing and turning. Though I managed to shut off the coverage and try to sleep, spasms of anxiety woke me repeatedly throughout the dreary hours. Continue reading

An Election Day coin flip: heads, the election is legit; tails, the election is stolen

Before the sun comes up tomorrow, we may know whether it’s a blue wave or another red tide. Continue reading

Vote against the litany of lies

The GOP is openly talking about gutting Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security, the programs you’ve paid for throughout your working life.

Here’s my closing argument. Continue reading

My report from El Paso: Beto’s grassroots campaign is amazing!

Sunday I probably walked at least ten freaking miles, all over freaking El Paso, arguably the friendliest city in America. Here’s me, out campaigning for Beto O’Rourke for U.S. Senate, all looking as chic as a Kardashian in my new “Beto for Texas” T-shirt. But what impressed me most here is the height, width and depth of this campaign. Beto’s volunteers must have knocked on every single door and talked with every single voter in Texas. At least twice. Grassroots resistance must destroy Trump’s “RED WALL” of fraud and theft

Trump’s November 6 blitzkrieg depends on stripping our right to vote and flipping the vote count. Continue reading

The White House desperately wants this election to be ‘us’ vs. ‘them’

As the midterms approach, the administration is ratcheting up its attacks on anyone who isn't a straight, white, native-born Christian.

In the days leading up to the election, the news has been scary. “We” are under threat from all sides. “They” are threatening us. Continue reading

Will the Caravan Coup be Trump’s ‘October Surprise’ & Reichstag Fire to cap a week of horror?

Treasonous “October Surprises” gave Republicans the presidency in 1968 and 1980. A staged 1933 Reichstag fire gave Hitler his dictatorship. Continue reading

Democrats: don’t go high or low, go big and bold

Donald Trump says the midterm elections are a “referendum about me.” Of course they are. Everything is about him. Continue reading

Voting matters, but staying engaged matters more

Real change means staying active long after Election Day.

After Brett Kavanaugh was confirmed, my Facebook feed filled up with people telling one another to vote in the midterms. “If you don’t like what’s happening in America, vote!” they said. Continue reading

I will be a poll worker November 6th—will you?

Voter registration is inherently racist

Stealing the vote

The GOP isn't out to 'win' elections anymore. They're just trying to make sure anyone who might vote against them can't.

At last, November 6 is coming: Time to vote! Let’s all join the majestic panorama of democracy in action! Continue reading

Containing the catastrophe

Anyone still unsure of how (or even whether) they’ll vote in the midterms should consider this: All three branches of government are now under the control of one party, and that party is under the control of Donald J. Trump. Continue reading

‘Say No to Red Tide Rick’: Florida governor forced to flee event after angry protesters shame him over anti-environment record

As dead marine animals continue to wash up on Florida’s coasts, a campaign event for the state’s term-limited Republican Gov. Rick Scott—who is attempting to unseat Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson—was “besieged” by a crowd of protesters angry about his role in exacerbating the ongoing red tide crisis by systematically attacking the state’s environmental protection laws. Sleeper Senate race in Nebraska could benefit Democrats

Senate Republican Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has expressed his fear that the Senate is in play in this year’s mid-term elections. Although Democrats are defending 10 Senate seats in states that Donald Trump won, a combination of events, including a conviction and cooperation deal with Trump’s former campaign chairman, Paul Manafort; the sleaze factor surrounding Trump and members of his administration; and farmers and livestock growers devastated by retaliatory moves by other countries on Trump’s tariffs, has put an unlikely state in play for the Democrats: Nebraska. Continue reading

The ‘No IDC NY’ state of mind

A coalition of young, committed activists has turned New York Democratic politics on its head.

Part of my awkward youth was spent in service of the New York State Democratic Party, an act of true hubris if you grew up, as I did, in rural upstate, where it was easier being a Menshevik than a Democrat. Continue reading

How Trump might win reelection with the continued help of the Democrats

It’s difficult to see how President Trump could be reelected if he stays on his current path, pushing capitalism to excess (leaving no billionaire behind). After all, it was his lurch to the left which got him the presidency, as many of the Rust Belt working class believed the Democrats had abandoned them. Continue reading

Democratic mid-term bonus: Republican endorsements

Democratic candidates up and down the ballot in this year’s mid-term election campaign are discovering the added bonus of Republican endorsements to add to favorable polling numbers. The candidates for governor of Florida will be decided on August 28, however, former Democratic U.S. Representative Gwen Graham, the daughter of former governor and senator Bob Graham, is leading in polls. Did ‘The Crocodile’ steal Zimbabwe’s election?

Did “The Crocodile,” Zimbabwe’s president and former national intelligence chief Emmerson Mnangagwa, steal the 2018 election? While no can say for sure outside of those party loyalists on the Election Commission appointed by President Mnangagwa, it sure looks that way. Continue reading

Social media election manipulation result of information warfare programs developed by the U.S. military

The British House of Commons Select Committee on Culture, Media and Sports recently released an interim report on “Disinformation and ‘Fake News.’” In a conclusion that does not surprise those who have been investigating “election engineering” in U.S. national and state elections over some two decades, the report states that “a small group of individuals and businesses had been influencing elections across different jurisdictions in recent years.” Continue reading

Shri Thanedar isn’t progressive

Michigan gubernatorial candidate Shri Thanedar wants to be something, not do something. He’s interested in advancing his resume, not public policy. He cares about himself, not the people. Continue reading

Freedom Rider: Russiagate covers up black vote theft

The corporate media and their friends in the Democratic Party are whipping up so much hatred and disinformation that it is almost impossible to discuss Russia or its president, Vladimir Putin. Putin is a multi-purpose villain. He is blamed for the vote theft conducted by white Americans against black people that resulted in the Donald Trump presidency. Continue reading

What we can do about Trump’s escalating lies

As the political season heats up, Trump is ramping up his lies through his three amplifiers: Fox News, rallies, and Twitter. Continue reading

The New York Times is still getting the Bernie movement wrong

America's paper of record said a Bernie Sanders-inspired grassroots group was "failing"—just one day before its candidates rocked the Democratic establishment.

Before major news organizations pronounce someone dead, they ought to check the person’s pulse. Continue reading

Freedom Rider: Ocasio-Cortez and the Left

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is a living Rorschach test for leftists. Her primary win over incumbent Joseph Crowley in a New York City congressional district is impressive on many levels. But the reaction to her victory demonstrates the sad state of affairs of left-wing politics in this country. Continue reading

57 unpatriotic ways the Corp/Dems have enthroned Trumputin

Why Republicans always win, even if they’re called ‘Democrats’

In their casual rhetoric at election time, Democrats pretend to represent the public interest, saying you should vote for them to stop the Republicans, but never tell you they are the Republicans in a two-corporate-party duopoly made up of clones with two names. Continue reading

Jim Crow Supremes enshrine voter lynch law and may have stolen the 2018 election for Trump’s GOP

The US Supreme Court (by the usual 5-4) has certified Ohio’s Jim Crow stripping of more than a million mostly black and Hispanic citizens from the 2018 voter registration rolls. Unless the Democrats effectively respond, a GOP victory in the 2018 mid-term election may be a done deal. Continue reading

Aging paperless voting machines in hotly-contested districts stoke fears ahead of midterms

More than 140 of November’s congressional elections will be decided using electronic voting machines with no verifiable paper trail, leading to concerns among election officials that any hacking or tampering will be undetectable—and accurate recounts or audits in the event of extremely close races, difficult to verify. The most important election in the world!

Lebanon? . . . What Election?

In a matter of mere hours, a new election will take place. Unlike seemingly all other national elections worldwide, this election will bring real “hope” to a needlessly impoverished country. This election will see real “change” come to a country far too long restricted and controlled by external foreign powers. For this is an election that is steeped in real democracy; not the US-inspired definition—the one based solely on the archaic shards of what little is left of a desperate empire struggling to hold onto its waning influence. This election will showcase, finally and thankfully, a return to the true definition. Continue reading
